We are pleased to announce that the Premier League Writing Stars poetry competition is back this year, with an exciting new theme – celebrating diversity!
A new poem, Beautifully different, Wonderfully the same, has been written by poet Joseph Coelho specially for this year’s competition; to inspire children to celebrate our similarities and differences through their own poem writing.
Premier League Writing Stars is run in partnership with the National Literacy Trust and is open to all primary school pupils in England and Wales aged 5-11, and there are some incredible prizes for both pupils and schools on offer.
To launch this year’s competition, we went to visit one of last year’s regional winners to hear about the impact Premier League Writing Stars had on her and her school.
Aashvi from Holy Cross Catholic Primary School in Liverpool was the North West Key Stage 1 winner. Her poem was picked by the judges for its powerful message and upbeat tone. Aashvi’s teacher commented that taking part in the competition and seeing her success really encouraged other children at their school to get writing, and the whole school is really excited to take part in this year’s Premier League Writing Stars competition.
Watch the film above to find out more about Aashvi’s story.
This year’s competition will be judged by stars from the worlds of poetry, football and music and is open from Tuesday 9 October 2018 until the end of the autumn term – Friday 21 December 2018. The first 1,000 schools to submit poems to the competition will receive a poetry book bag, stuffed with twelve brilliant titles for your school to enjoy and keep.
