The singer helped pupils prepare for this year’s Premier League Writing Stars competition.
Singer and songwriter Olly Murs joined pupils at St Luke’s R.C Primary School in Salford for an unforgettable poetry lesson led by Manchester United Foundation. The session focused on diversity – the theme of this year’s Premier League Writing Stars poetry competition.
Olly talked about how he uses poetry in songwriting to express his thoughts and feelings, and challenged pupils to write and perform their own poems, set to the backing track of his latest single, ‘Moves’.
Headteacher Mr Jameson was thrilled at how the session went, saying:
“It was great to have Olly here at St Luke’s Primary School and to see how engaged our children were in creating and performing their Premier League Writing Stars entries.”
Olly, who sits on the judging panel for the competition, was blown away by with the quality of the poems the pupils produced. He said:
“It’s fantastic to be part of the judging panel for this year’s Premier League Writing Stars. Being both a singer and songwriter with a big passion for football, I can’t wait to see how children across England and Wales show their creativity to bring the theme of diversity to life.”
