Year 3 pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Wrexham have been picked as overall winners of the Plastic Pollution Challenge for their fantastic film documenting their ‘Think and Reuse’ pledge to reduce single-use plastic. The pupils spread the word about plastic pollution with assemblies for parents and their peers, and even convinced the Mayor of Wrexham to get recycling bins placed in their area!
Making sure the message was shared with their local community, the pupils displayed posters in local cafés to educate people on reusing plastic bottles. Now, all school events use paper cups and kitchen staff sort through food and packaging to ensure everything is recycled appropriately.
To celebrate their outstanding efforts, the school got to play host to the Premier League Trophy and Plasticus the Sky Ocean Rescue whale made entirely from recycled plastic, for an exciting prize day.
With over 200 schools sending in pledges for the Plastic Pollution Challenge with Sky Ocean Rescue, ten lucky schools, including St Mary’s Catholic Primary, got to film their pledges with Sky Academy Studios. Watch the 10 films to get pupils thinking about how they can take action. Plus, remember you can still use our Plastic Pollution Challenge resource pack so you can continue to turn the tide on plastic pollution, with inspiration from Premier League clubs!
