Award-winning hip-hop poet Karl Nova took a trip down memory lane to his former primary school for the Premier League Writing Stars poetry competition.
Karl visited Burton End Primary Academy in Haverhill, Suffolk, to inspire pupils to be ambitious in his role as judge for this year’s Premier League Writing Stars competition. Fellow judges include Cressida Cowell (Waterstones Children’s Laureate) and Wes Morgan (Leicester City Captain).
Karl’s high energy and love of poetry perfectly accompany this year’s competition theme of ambition. Through presenting poetry workshops and a school assembly, Karl captivated the pupils, encouraging them to put their aspirations, hopes and dreams into words and think about their bright futures.
Headteacher of Burton End Primary Academy, Karen Sheargold, said: "It was great to welcome back Karl. He's such a bright personality and his passion for poetry is truly infectious."
After working with the children, Karl also commented: “It was clear from how the pupils reacted during today’s lesson on ambition that football and poetry have the ability to make kids use their imagination and dream big!”
Karl has also written this year’s themed competition poem, ‘Beautiful Ambition’, – which you can see him perform on film in the competition resource pack.
There’s still time to take part and submit your pupils’ poems before Friday 20 March 2020!
