<<JAX>> Today is my eighth birthday.
Mum is taking me to see my
favourite football team for a
special treat.
I can't wait.
<<MUM>> Lets's get tidied up.
Or we're gonna be late for the game!
Can you get me the clingfilm?
Where's your scarf?
There you go.
<<JAX>> Thanks mum.
I picked up a straw.
<<MUM>> Ooh, it's chilly.
<<JAX>> Yeah.
Look mum, it's Gully!
<<CLAIRE>> Today Gully
and I are helping to
raise awareness of
single-use plastics.
Did you know that
every day items such as
straws, plastic bags and bottles
are ending up in our oceans and
harming sea creatures and wildlife?
Like our friend Gully.
<<JAX>> So what can
my family do to help?
<<CLAIRE>> Well, if we call
make simple changes
we can help to reduce the amount
of plastic that ends
up in our ocean.
For example, by using a reusable
water bottle, like this one,
or putting your lunch in a lunch box
or saying no to
plastic straws and cutlery.
Here at Brighton and Hove Albion,
we're taking action
and we're removing single-use
plastic from our stadium.
And we're also working
with local communities
to help clean up our beaches.
So here's a reusable water bottle
so you can get started.
And here is a very special wristband
so you can help pass on the word.
<<JAX>>Thanks for these!
<<CLAIRE>> You're welcome!
Enjoy the match!
(CROWD ROARS)
<<MUM>> Come on, let's go.
<<JAX>> Gully taught me lots
of things about
plastic that I didn't know.
And how use so many things
once and throw them away.
Do you think we could help reduce
the amount of plastics in the ocean?
<<MUM>> Yeah. Let's do our bit.
<<JAX>> So here are some
things we could
have done differently today.
Birthdays are fun,
but sometimes we use a lot of items
we'd use just once.
But it's easy to swap out
throwaway plates and cutlery
for proper grown-up ones.
Remember to take a water bottle
with you and a packed lunch.
And ditch the clingfilm
on your sandwiches.
My mum now uses her
reusuable cup when we go out.
And I've got one too
for my smoothie.
And I never use a straw anymore.
I don't need one.
It's easy to do your bit
and make a change.
I'm going to pass on plastic.
Why don't you join me?
